Oral thin films (OTF) are a novel drug delivery method that offers high flexibility in drug administration and patient compliance.
According to the absorption pathway, oral film agents can be divided into two categories: oral mucosa and oral dispersion film.
(1)The oral mucosal film can be placed on the tongue, sublingual, or inside the cheek. Through mucosal adhesives, they can adhere to the interior of the oral cavity and slowly release drugs into the systemic circulation through the mucosa (i.e. sublingual or cheek). So, the onset time of oral mucosal film is particularly fast, and it can also reduce or avoid the first pass metabolism of drugs or degradation in gastric acid environment.
(2) Oral dispersing film is non mucosal adhesive and usually decomposes upon contact with saliva. It can be specifically divided into two types: "oral disintegrating film" and "oral dissolving film", both of which will immediately decompose in the mouth. Oral disintegrating films generally carry poorly soluble drugs, which disintegrate in the oral cavity and dissolve and absorb in the gastrointestinal tract (GI); Oral dissolution membranes are usually loaded with water-soluble drugs that disintegrate and dissolve in the oral cavity.
The oral thin film production line is a professional OTF production equipment that can produce OTF of different sizes.
